Sera Group Collaborates With La Porte County Government To Redefine Web Design Standards

La Porte County is home to many lakes, walking trails, and is part of Indiana’s 2nd congressional district. The La Porte County Government’s website is a resource where visitors and residents can browse all things La Porte; from town meeting Agendas & Minutes to Health Department updates. Visitors to the website can view the latest county news, make online payments, and more with the help of the La Porte County Government.

The La Porte County Government approached us to help with redesigning their 20-year-old website. We worked together with county officials to develop a modernized website with streamlined navigation, improved user experience, and up-to-date content. The goal was to create a resourceful site for all La Porte County residents and business owners to use.

Comprehensive Marketing Strategy

With the goals of creating a user-friendly and resourceful website in mind, we implemented our best SEO practices to ensure that we could generate more organic traffic to the County’s website so visitors can easily find what they are looking for. We wanted the website to be accessible from every device, so we improved the site navigation for an optimized user experience. Having up-to-date content was a large focus for the La Porte County Website, so we appointed a handful of County Employees to update the website content by using an employee portal that we created. We were then tasked with a redesign of the County’s website to make it modernized and include tools to improve the flow of navigating through the site.

Sitewide Search Form Functionality

With a website having over 300 pages, we wanted to ensure every user could find what they were looking for every time they visited the website. We accomplished this by integrating a full sitewide search form that will match to keywords. We broke this down even further with a built out mega menu and overview pages. We then implemented each overview page with section-specific search forms that will help visitors search for more specific information within section.

Improved Site Structure & Navigation

We improved the site navigation and structure by implementing the community’s input to create a quick access bar and mega menu. Within the quick access bar, we have gathered the top items that the website is used for, to make searching less of a hassle. The mega menu is broken into 5 different features, each having its own overview page. Now pages and other items are more organized and straight forward for all visitors. With these improvements, the site flow will help lead visitors to their destinations more quickly.

Mobile Responsive Design

La Porte County is a beautiful place that has an abundance of unique features that residents, businesses, and visitors cherish. We wanted to capture this same feeling through the website. As a result, we optimized images for faster load times, made navigation simple for improved user experience, and made the site accessible across all device screen sizes to give customers a convenient mobile experience when using the La Porte County Government website.

Search Engine Optimization

Excellent SEO practice ensures customers find relevant information the first time they search. We created great SEO Ranking by researching and utilizing keyword research, investigating search engine result pages, and by using image alt tags. In turn, we generated more organic traffic to the County’s website so visitors can find what they are looking for more easily.

Hands-on Training

We generated multiple user guides, instructional videos, and flow charts with tailored walkthroughs for La Porte County Government’s employees to ensure they were proper trained when utilizing the integrated builder on the new website.

County Employee User Accounts

Having up-to-date content was a large focus for the La Porte County Website. Having over 300 pages of content made updating content a struggle. Therefore “Super Users” were created to be in charge of selected amount pages that would spread across the whole site. Each Super User was generated user accounts that gave them the ability to make quick and accurate content updates. We believe this approach will help keep all visitors informed with accurate content while allowing low input times from Super Users.
